Wakefield Council is looked for contractors to build a new 5.5nm road, worth £33m.
The Wakefield Western Relief Road project will link the A642 Aberford Road in the north to the A638 Doncaster Road in the south. The project will enhance an urban expansion plan to construct 2,500 new homes.
The road will need to cross the Wakefield Kirkgate to Normanton railway line and the River Calder. The railway is on a large embankment, and it is proposed that the road will cross underneath the line.
Wakefield council hopes to start construction in April 2015, with 54hours over Christmas 2015 scheduled for the installation of the railway bridge.
